You

A very green valley
welcomes you at the entrance of town Ağlasun. In
front of this plain of Sagalassos you will meet cherry, walnut trees, organic
vegetables and fruits, and you will admire the friendly and hospitable people
of Ağlasun and especially the
hospitality at the trout resort facilities in Yeşilbaş town, Ağlasun. The houses visible through trees have been
the interest of the local tourist-oriented mountain tourism places in summer especially for the people from Antalya spending their
summer holidays.

Sagalassos,
is the city of loves, desires and the most favourite city of the emperors. The
city located on the foothills of the Taurus will be see by you again and again.
At the entrance of the city houses, below the city baths, down the city the
Agora (marketplace) and the ceramic production center welcomes you. Moving upwards on the right the theater, the neon
library, in the center of the
city up the agora is the parliament building of the church in the upper
left hand side of the city is the church and the Heroon will suck you in. In a
moment you will find yourself in the Roman Times. A dense population a culture
city Sagalassos up in the agora heated political talks, powerful Roman emperors
commands will be heard from the Senate, the Macellum, the boutiques and marketplace. Lovers drinking
water from Antonine fountain and getting lost in each other’s eyes will

One of
the most important features of the ancient city Sagalassos,which lies on the
south-facing slopes of the Taurus Mountains
with the altitude of 1490-1600
meters is that it is one of the five major ceramic
production centers. The city had
its best period of economic
political and social sense during the reign of the Roman fifth Emperor Hadrian
(2nd century A.D.) In terms of urban planning by the embodiment
method of property and reconstruction and characteristic of 1000 years of
ceramic production center helped it for its entry into the World Heritage of UNESCO
temporary list in 2009.

Starting
in 1989 and since 1990, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Marc WAELKENS many
buildings and works were uncovered during the excavations. In the excavations
done in the years 2007
and 2008 the Emperor Marcus Aurelius and
sculptures of the Emperor Hadrian- an estimated length of 5 meters- may be
sufficient to bewitch people. These sculptures
are presented to the interests of the tourists. In
small Asia Sagalassos might be an ancient city which was one of the best preserved
ancient settlements to the present day after being abandoned.

The
history of the ancient city of Sagalassos
in written sources, begins with the conquest of Alexander the Great in 333 BC .
After the death of Alexander the Great, the reign of the city remains for a
short period of time to his predecessors. In
281 BC the Seleukoses took the control over the city.Between the years
188-133BC Attaloses became a part of the Kingdom of Pergamum.
After 129 BC SagaRoman province Galatia. In the AD 5th -7th century successive earthquakes and especially
Arab attacks the city started to lose population and in Sagalassos
was pushed into the process of
being abandoned.

There
